About

Monique is a Latinx PhD student at UCSB in Education with an emphasis in program evaluation, policy, and research methods. Her research interests involve the use of critical methods to understand lived-experiences of students with children and marginalized students of color. She is the founder and President of the Student Parent Association at UCSB where she works with other graduate students to build supportive infrastructures for student parents at her campus. Monique attended community college as an undergraduate student and transferred to CSU Fullerton, where she completed her B.A. in Psychology. She is a solo parent to her 10-year-old son, and following in her footsteps, he’s had a chance to attend and speak at academic conferences. When Monique and her son are not busy with academics or work, they enjoy playing board games and spending time outdoors.
